Football Fanzines - "the media choice of enterprising brands" (as described in Marketing Magazine)
Readers and Income
It is interesting to note some of the figures from the Sir Norman Chester Centre Report for the F.A. about match-attending fans - i.e. the ones who buy fanzines :
11% of fans now earn more than £50,000 a year
Not surprisingly, the largest numbers of this group follow London teams.
At Chelsea, they make up one third of the crowd, and a fifth at Arsenal.
This compares with Sunderland (4%) and Everton (5%)
Collectability
At most clubs (typically where the fans and board do not see eye to eye) the real fans prefer to buy a fanzine to buying ‘the plc programme‘. It is also cheaper (programmes can cost £3) and fanzines are collectable.
Most fanzines now sell their own binders. The fanzines find their way into homes (where, typically, a family will support the same club) and is read - according to most estimates - by at least three people.
